10 of the best early-bird Lunar New Year pudding offers from Hong Kong restaurants and hotels for Year of the Dragon

It’s never too early to get organized when it comes to Lunar New Year.

Whether you’re looking to give holiday foods to family and friends or enjoy getting organized for your gastronomic pleasure, New Year puddings – with their auspicious connotations for elevation and improvement – are perennial favorites.

Lunar New Year falls on February 10 this year, and there are plenty of early-bird deals on offer in Hong Kong – so get your orders in before the promotions end.

Note that all the prices listed factor in the early-bird discounts.

  • Ming Court

Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with Lunar New Year puddings from either of the Michelin-star Ming Court restaurants in Mong Kok and Wan Chai.

Secure early-bird deals for Ming Court’s turnip pudding made with locally grown turnips (HK$298/US$38) and classic coconut New Year pudding (HK$238), as well as the premium red date pudding with coconut (HK$288) until January 22.

Ming Court is also offering a special price for those buying ten boxes or more, from HK$218 per box for the coconut puddings to HK$278 per box for its turnip puddings.

Orders can be redeemed between January 29 and February 9.

Welcome the Year of the Dragon with culinary excellence from one Michelin-star Yat Tung Heen, which is offering early-bird discounts of 20 to 25 percent.

Created by executive chef Tam Tung, its turnip pudding (HK$228) has premium ingredients such as dried shrimp and conpoy (dried scallop). In contrast, the Lunar New Year pudding (HK$198) is a traditional coconut glutinous rice cake made with cane sugar.

It offers three pudding options, all priced at HK$268: black truffle turnip pudding with Yunnan ham and preserved meat, taro pudding with conpoy and preserved meat, and the classic New Year pudding made with black sugar and ginger.

Order by January 31, with pickup from January 28 to February 8 at Hotel Icon’s festive counter.

Prepare for the holiday season with Grand Hyatt Hong Kong’s 15 percent early-bird discount on Lunar New Year treats until January 17.

It offers traditional coconut pudding (HK$227.80) and turnip pudding with premium ingredients (also HK$227.80), and a package that comprises a turnip pudding and a bottle of One Harbour Road’s signature XO chili sauce (HK$414.80).

Its line-up features classics such as cured meat and turnip pudding (HK$248), water chestnut pudding (HK$188) and coconut cream pudding (HK$188), and modern options such as yam pudding with black truffle (HK$248), and white peach and osmanthus chilled pudding (HK$198).

An early-bird discount is available until January 31, and orders can be redeemed from January 30 to February 8.

Available are a coconut milk pudding with Ceylon tea (HK$208 for 10 to 19 boxes, HK$179 for 20 boxes and more) and a turnip pudding with conpoy and air-dried meat (HK$268 for 10 to 19 boxes, HK$238 for 20 boxes and more).

Available for pre-order until January 21, the collection period runs from January 26 to February 8.

Celebrate the holiday with traditional Lunar New Year treats from W Hong Kong’s Cantonese restaurant Sing Yin.

Its Chinese rice pudding (HK$194) and the Chinese turnip cake (HK$228) are presented in gift box sets inspired by the energy of the dragon, the zodiac animal for the coming lunar year.

An early-bird discount of 15 percent for up to 49 sets will last until January 31, and Sing Yin is offering up to 35 percent off for orders of 300 to 399 sets.

Orders can be redeemed between January 26 and February 13.

Those who like the convenience of picking up their pudding orders in Wan Chai can head to The Atrium Chinese Restaurant in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The restaurant offers traditional puddings such as the turnip pudding with Chinese sausage and preserved meat (HK$245) and taro pudding (HK$245), which combines Chinese sausage, preserved meat, and XO sauce.

Its classic sweet offerings include Lunar New Year pudding (HK$177) and a red date and coconut pudding (HK$177) made with Xinjiang red dates and Thai coconut milk and cream.

The early-bird offer lasts a bit longer here, running until February 4; orders can be picked up from January 27 until February 8.

The Shanghainese restaurant in Central is offering three creations for its first Lunar New Year, with early-bird discounts of HK$40 to HK$50 per pudding.

Opt for luxury in the form of the abalone and preserved sausage turnip cake (HK$348), the rice cake with wolfberry (HK$288), or the osmanthus water chestnut cake (HK$288).
