Elf on the Shelf : Playing Tic Tac Toe with Marshmallows

Elf On Shelf Tic Tac Toe 1

I’m sure by now you’ve seen all the crazy Elf On the Shelf posts that people are posting on Facebook, Pinterest & Instagram.  We’ve had our elf, Buddy, since 2009 but he’s been pretty lazy all these years.  Just flying in and out of the house and landing at pretty, random, last minute spots before the kids awake.

This year I decided, after my 11 year old son, Charming, told me that he no longer believes in Santa, it was time to fully take advantage of every opportunity I still have with my almost six year old daughter, Mischief.

Coming back in full force this year we set up Buddy the Elf on December 1st with a lovely surprise inside the kid’s bathroom.  I figured it wouldn’t hurt to leave a little note with him nightly this time!

I took items I already had around the house to create this set up inspired by Lovely Life of Leah to have Buddy playing Tic Tac Toe:

  • Buddy; our Elf on the Shelf & Elf on the Shelf book that came with him
  • Super Mini Marshmallows (the REALLY little baby ones that are in hot cocoa pouches!)
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Red & Green Pen
  • Cardstock Paper for the Note

I set him up and wrote a note asking our daughter to have us put up the Christmas tree that day (we already had that planned)!  Of course, he sat there all day and then cleaned up his mess that night when he left for his trip to the North Pole.

Be sure to check back for my other Elf on the Shelf Posts as we’re going strong through December 24. Hopefully you can use this idea with your little elf!
